JOHN WISDOM WAGON TRAIN & TRAIL RIDE

Saturday, October 17, Ridge Ferry Park. Wagon train departs at 8:30 am. $10 / adults, $5 / kids 12 and under. Commemorating the heroic ride of mail carrier John Wisdom, who rode 11 hours to warn Rome of impending attack, saving Rome from early destruction from Union forces. The ride departs Ridge Ferry Park, heads to Shannon and back into Rome for the Grand Parade down Broad Street at 5 pm. Coggins papers are required. Western dance to follow at 7 pm, Ridge Ferry Park. MYRTLE HILL CEMETERY TOURS

Saturday, October 17. Myrtle Hill Cemetery - Main gates on Myrtle Street. Tours depart: 10 am, 10:30 am, 11 am, 11:30 am. Adults, $8, Children 12/under, $5. Tour guides lead guests through the intricate paths, tell stories, and note symbolism of the cemetery, circa 1857. Grave hosts will tell incredible stories of the lives who rest along the way. HISTORIC BERRY BIKE TOURS

Saturday, October 17, 10 am. Oak Hill - Martha Berry Museum. Free and open to the public. Reservations encouraged but not required. HAUNTED HISTORY TOURS

Saturday, October 24, 6 pm. Oak Hill - Martha Berry Museum. Participants take a tour back in time to study myths and legends of Southern Highlanders. Tours feature Possum Trot, Cabin in the Pines, and Barnwell Chapel, and explore Southern Highlanders beliefs about death, spirits and the after-life. Meet at Martha Berry Museum, 6 pm.

FREE OUTDOOR MOVIE AT BRIDGEPOINT PLAZA

The Rome-Floyd Parks and Recreation Authority and the Downtown Development Authority invites the public to attend A Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian (Rated PG), a free outdoor movie at Bridgepoint Plaza on Friday, October 30. Movie concessions will be available for sale when the gates open at 6 pm. The movie will start after sunset at 7 pm. Bring chairs and blankets for lawn-seating. Pets are not allowed.
